Abstract:

The removal of cadmium using biosorption on Luffa Cylindrica was investigated. The biosorption process is affected by several parameters such as contact time, particle size, initial pH and temperature of the solution. The obtained results showed that the equilibrium time was determined to be one hour. The adsorbent use in this study gave the highest adsorption capacity at pH 6. The experimental data was investigated by both Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models and it was found that it obey at the Langmuir model. The maximum adsorption capacity qmax constant increased from 5.46 to 7.29 mg/g with increasing temperature from 20 to 40 °C. The sorption kinetics was studied by both pseudo-first-order and pseudosecond-order and was found to follow pseudo-second-order model.
